Abortion in Texas?

Abortion is one of the many topics that seem to be a very touchy subject to talk about in Texas. There was a large battle during the summer about women having the right to have the option of abortion. House Bill 2 that was enforced on October 29th requires the doctors that are performing the abortion surgery have hospital admitting privilege within 30 miles of the facility, and that doctors follows the FDA regimen, rather than commonly used evidence-based protocol, for drug-induced abortions. Which I think is a good bill because it still allows abortions in Texas, and it still gives women a choice. The only hassle is that most of the planned parenthood that performed the abortions don't meet the requirements so they no longer able to have abortions there. Most people were kind of upset about this because they couldn't go somewhere easy to get there business done. Judge Lee Yeakel wanted to reverse the House Bill because the requirements of the facility having the hospital admitting privilege is an undue burden for the women. Which yes it will make it more complicated for an abortion but not having this Bill will just allow any clinic to perform the surgery. It is always better safe than sorry in my opinion. Abortion would never be my first choice and it would probably never be a choice in my life but having that option still floating around would be nice. In Texas people are very good at taking their religion and opinion and shoving it down other people's throats. This Bill is kind of a tie for the abortion battle because abortion facilities are closing but there are still some facilities that are still open that are going to be much safer to go to. I think that they should just leave the House Bill 2 it's not making abortion illegal it is making it safer.

  1. In one of my classmates articles Texas In My Eyes she talked about abortions in Texas and the House Bill 2 that requires the doctors that are performing the abortion surgery have hospital admitting privilege within 30 miles of the facility, and that doctors follows the FDA regimen, rather than commonly used evidence-based protocol, for drug-induced abortions and she agreed with that bill and I also agree with her.
I feel that a woman needs to have the best care especially when getting a serious procedure like that done and it still allows women to get abortions safely and legally in Texas. The House Bill 2 may has also did a good thing and managed closed some facilities down because they didn't meet some of the requirements and to me that's a good thing because so many women could have gotten a procedure done illegally and things also would've went wrong because they didn't have the proper equipment or doctors etc.
I agree to leave the Bill because it allows women to have that option available and it doesn't take that away from them because yes some people may believe that abortion is bad and should just be illegal but some people don't have time for children or may not be financially stable to have children right now and the House Bill 2 saves them!

  2. Ms. Tran wrote an article about House Bill 2, which was a bill intended to cut back on the amount of abortion clinics and increase the quality for the ones that are left. I agree with Ms. Tran's comment on this bill that it should pass. I believe abortion should be an option for women however it shouldn't be the first option, or the option should only be addressed with the consent of the father. Abortion should always been done in the safest way possible, and if limiting clinics to do that is the way, then by all means, this should be done.

  3. In one of my colleague’s article from her blog titled Texas in My Eyes, she brought up the subject about abortion in Texas. She discussed about House Bill 2 that was passed on October 29th. Which “requires doctors who perform abortion surgery have hospital admitting privilege within 30 miles of the facility.” I agree with Lysa’s view on abortion. Personally, I highly disagree abortion in general. If you think about it, it’s the equivalent of murder. But I do believe that women have the right to do what they want with their body so it is a good thing that the option of abortion is still available in various locations around Texas. The fact that the available places to get an abortion are spread throughout the state makes it difficult for women who do not live in that specific city. All in all I agree with everything Lysa is saying when she makes the statement that “they should just leave the House Bill 2 it’s not making abortion illegal it is making it safer.” Not every woman should be qualified for an abortion. So it is a good thing there are numerous requirements in order to receive one.
